Chapter Eighteen

Mickey roused Kaleb early the next morning, and Kaleb didn’t want to get up. He groaned his displeasure and pulled Mickey close, making himself comfortable with his head on Mickey’s chest.

“I have to get up. I have school,” Mickey said, grinning.

“I know. Five minutes snuggle time.”

“Five minutes snuggle time, and I’ll be dozing off again.”

“I’m hoping for that.”

Mickey laughed and shuffled around to lie on top of Kaleb. “Come have breakfast with me, then you can return to bed.”

“No, don’t want to return alone, but I’ll come have breakfast with you. I got stuff to do, anyway, so I might as well get up.”

“I can’t even come over later. My dad and I are gonna go shopping for college, and I’ve promised my mom to clean out my room before I go. You’ve seen my room, so you know that’ll take a month.”

Kaleb chuckled. “And I can’t even come and help you.”

“Yeah. I thought about asking Mr. Helpful.”

“Ryan? I’m sure he’d love to.”

“You think?”

Kaleb nodded, sitting up. Mickey cracked up, rolling over on the bed. “What?”

“You’ve got the worst case of post-fuck-hair I’ve ever seen!”

“With a fuck like that? I’m sure.” Kaleb felt his hair, and having gone to bed with wet and untied hair was never a good thing. He tried to rake his fingers gently through it, but gave up. “I’m gonna need help with this.” He got out of bed and found a hair band in his nightstand drawer that he bundled the mess into.

They got dressed, used the bathroom, and went downstairs. Kaleb brought his brush, trying to comb out some of the knots in the back of his head—probably from thrashing in ecstasy. Ryan, Phil, Heather, and Edward sat at a table, and Kaleb stopped short as his brush caught.

“What did you do to your hair?” Edward asked and got up. Mickey snickered and found a seat.

“Went to bed with wet hair.”

“That’s usually not enough to entangle it like this.” Edward took the brush.

“Sex is.”

Heather clasped a hand over her mouth, almost spitting out milk and cereal.

“Sit down, son,” Edward said.

Kaleb heard the smile in his tone. He sat next to Mickey, and Ryan poured Kaleb a cup of coffee, pushing it to him.

“Thanks.”

“Jesus, good thing you don’t have school today. I don’t have time to braid it before I have to leave.”

“That’s okay, Dad. Thanks anyway.”

Mickey snickered uncontrollably, joining Heather who seemed to have given up on her cereal. Kaleb didn’t care, but he did think a change of subject was necessary.

“So, Ryan. Would you help Mickey out with something?”

“Sure, what?” Ryan looked at Mickey.

“I need to clean my room out before I leave for college. Mom’s orders.”

“Uh, and I take it we’re talking spring cleaning where everything has to go?”

“Exactly.”

“Sure, say when, I’m game.”

“And now the game is off to school,” Edward said, handing Kaleb his brush back. Everyone but Kaleb left the table, and Kaleb raked his fingers through his hair to see how far his dad had gotten straightening out the disaster.
